elaine k releases Sophomore Album:as is Record Label: small space records
This album was basically a result of artist battery by the fans! elaine k was brow beaten into giving the fans some new material to wear out their cd players with. Early attention will go to the unusual packaging - a kind of brown cardboard with only black print. This was not a way to cut corners, quite the opposite in fact. elaine had insisted that the packaging do no more harm to the environment and as a result went with recycled products only. In a similar fashion to yeah, really, as is was also recorded in more than one studio and even more than one country. New York played the biggest part with three studios and Ireland came in second with just the one. The material contained on as is displays a fantastic range of influences and musical abilities. This album will take you easily from the distorted electric guitar driven rock opener of Not About You all the way to the delicate Deserve You where elaine's vocals are accompanied only by sparse guitar and cello, all in seemlingly unoticeable moves. The album also contains two live tracks taken from NYC gigs where elaine's by now critically acclaimed live energy translates forcefully onto these recordings. Honorable mention must go to track #7 Lucky, a song dedicated in the booklet to "the survivors in nyc". This track has touched many all across the world for its bare, raw and honest emotions that shine through from a writer living in NYC during recent times. On the same record lies the provocative yet beautifully peaceful "I Will Not Fight Your War" which touts almost childlike lines like "I still believe in love and peace". The writing is breathtaking, the performances honest and real and the result is simply well worth owning. Give it a spin and join the growing numbers... All tracks written by elaine k |
